Crab Claws make for great party food

Consider the type of party you’d like to throw – just family, with friends, for kids and/or adults. Do you want people to chat and mingle or dance? This will help you decide on the type of food you should serve.

Best for informal parties, canapes and finger food allow people to gather round, chat and dance freely. They work great for kids parties too with simplified recipes.

For the adults think crostini, smoked salmon, herbs and cream cheese or prawns marinated in chilli and garlic, wrapped in prosciutto ham, skewered and baked for 5 mins on a medium heat. Buy some sliced cold meats such as pepperoni, chorizo, cured ham etc and jars of relish and chutneys, there are plenty to choose from in supermarkets, and people can combine as they like.

Finger food for kids can be easy too – ham and cheese on crackers, cocktail sausages, mixed fruit skewers or chicken and veg skewers make party food fun for kids. Chocolate dipped strawberries are a great finger licking dessert option, or any fruit dipped in chocolate…

Don’t forget the paper plates and plenty of napkins for your guests if you decide to serve finger food!

One Pot Wonders
Perfect for family get togethers, meals cooked in (almost) one pot can really get conversation going and everyone involved in serving enjoying the party at your home.

Think outside the box, and try fish with black olives and tomatoes. Lightly cook onions in a pan with a little oil, and add a can of chopped tomatoes, with seasoning and boil the mixture. Then add the olives and boneless white fillets of fish skin side down, onto the sauce and drizzle over a splash more oil. You can then place in the oven and bake uncovered for 15 minutes until the fish is cooked. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve straight from the pan, with lemon wedges for squeezing over.
